Assistant Chief Ty Shaw-Williams is a dynamic and accomplished law enforcement leader celebrating over 21 years of dedicated public service. Widely recognized as a champion for youth development, education, and the advancement of women, she began her career in 2005 as a Victim Advocate and Domestic Violence Practitioner, providing critical support to vulnerable populations. Her early experiences shaped a career grounded in compassion, justice, and service, ultimately leading her to earn a master’s degree in Criminology and join the Miramar Police Department, where she now serves as Assistant Chief of Administrative Services.

Over the course of her distinguished career, Assistant Chief Shaw-Williams has demonstrated exceptional leadership across multiple operational and administrative areas. She has held key assignments in Criminal Investigations and Internal Affairs, where she built a reputation for integrity, accountability, and strategic problem-solving. Her exemplary performance has been recognized with two Excellence in Police Service Awards and the department’s highest distinction, the Chief’s Leadership Award. In her current executive role, she oversees critical administrative functions, contributing to organizational effectiveness, policy development, and the continued advancement of professional standards within the department.

In addition to her command responsibilities, Assistant Chief Shaw-Williams is deeply committed to education and mentorship. She serves as an Adjunct Professor at Broward College, where she teaches Criminal Justice and Leadership, helping to shape the next generation of law enforcement professionals and community leaders. Her dedication to lifelong learning is further reflected in her ongoing pursuit of a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership, where her research centers on gender equity in policing and organizational change. She is also an active advocate for the national 30x30 Initiative, which aims to increase the representation of women in law enforcement to 30 percent by the year 2030.

A visionary leader, Assistant Chief Shaw-Williams launched the Miramar Police Department’s “Sisterhood in Blue” initiative in 2024 in recognition of Women’s History Month. This initiative serves as a meaningful platform to celebrate, empower, and elevate women’s contributions in law enforcement while fostering mentorship and unity within the profession. She also proudly represents the Female Association of Law Enforcement Professionals (FAWLEP), a Florida-based organization dedicated to supporting, mentoring, and advancing women in policing through leadership development, training, and advocacy.

Her commitment to service extends well beyond her professional role. Assistant Chief Shaw-Williams serves as the Executive Chair of the Healing Arts Institute of South Florida, where she helps lead initiatives focused on wellness, cultural enrichment, and community healing. She is a dedicated mentor with Honey Shine, Inc., a nonprofit organization founded by Tracy Mourning that empowers young girls through mentorship, leadership development, and life skills training. Additionally, she serves as a Restorative Justice Facilitator with the Urban League of Broward County, promoting community-based approaches to accountability, healing, and conflict resolution. Most recently, she has provided mentorship and support through Broward Health’s Oncology Services, offering encouragement and compassion to individuals navigating cancer treatment.

Assistant Chief Shaw-Williams proudly credits the City of Miramar for igniting her passion for mentorship and community engagement. Her journey began with participation in the City’s DREAM Program through Parks and Recreation. This formative experience continues to inspire her commitment to uplifting others and investing in future generations.

A proud breast cancer survivor, dedicated yogi, and advocate for holistic wellness, Assistant Chief Shaw-Williams exemplifies resilience, balance, and purpose in both her personal and professional life. She is a graduate of the prestigious Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officers Course, where she earned the distinguished Dean of Scholars honor, achieved academic excellence, and served as Class Historian, further reflecting her commitment to leadership and scholarship.

She shares her life with her husband, a fellow law enforcement officer, and together they take great pride in their son, Jimmy Williams III, a University of Louisville football player. Through her leadership, service, and unwavering dedication to others, Assistant Chief Shaw-Williams continues to inspire those around her while leaving a lasting impact on her profession and community.
