Mentorship
Grow Through Connection
Mentorship can shape careers, strengthen confidence, expand perspective, and help women navigate the opportunities and challenges that come with a career in law enforcement. At FAWLEP, mentorship is part of our commitment to creating a supportive professional community where women can learn from one another, share experience, build meaningful relationships, and help others grow.
FAWLEP encourages members at every career stage to recognize the value of both receiving guidance and sharing what they have learned. Mentorship does not always require a formal title or structured program. Sometimes it begins with a conversation, a connection, an introduction, or a willingness to help another professional see what may be possible.
WHY MENTORSHIP MATTERS
Learn From Experience
Connecting with experienced professionals can provide insight into leadership, career decisions, professional development, workplace challenges, and lessons learned throughout a career.
Build Confidence
Encouragement, perspective, and constructive guidance can help members recognize their strengths and prepare for new responsibilities and opportunities.
Expand Your Professional Network
Meaningful relationships across agencies, ranks, disciplines, and generations can broaden a member's professional community and create opportunities for continued learning.
Prepare for Leadership
Mentorship can help emerging leaders learn from the experiences of those who have supervised teams, led organizations, managed critical situations, and navigated career transitions.
Share What You Know
Experienced members have an opportunity to invest in others by sharing lessons, encouragement, professional insight, and practical knowledge gained throughout their careers.
Strengthen the Profession
When women share knowledge, support professional growth, and help prepare others to lead, that investment can strengthen organizations, communities, and the law enforcement profession.

MENTORSHIP THROUGH FAWLEP
FAWLEP supports a culture of mentorship by creating opportunities for members to connect through Association activities, professional development, leadership programs, committees, conferences, networking opportunities, community engagement, and member-to-member relationships.

FAWLEP does not currently operate a formal mentor-matching program and does not assign mentors or mentees. Members are encouraged to use FAWLEP programs and relationships as opportunities to build authentic professional connections and identify individuals from whom they can learn or whom they can support.

FOR EXPERIENCED MEMBERS
Your Experience Can Help Someone Else Move Forward
FAWLEP encourages experienced professionals to remain open to supporting other members through conversation, encouragement, introductions, professional guidance, and the sharing of lessons learned. Mentorship can be as simple as answering a question, reviewing an idea, sharing perspective, introducing someone to a professional contact, or encouraging a member to pursue an opportunity she may not yet see in herself.

Retired members also bring valuable institutional knowledge, leadership experience, and perspective that can continue benefiting the profession long after retirement.
