Retired Director Stephanie Daniels
Co-Founder & Secretary
Miami-Dade Police Department
Stephanie V. Daniels is a respected law enforcement leader, mentor, strategist, and community advocate whose career has been defined by service, courage, and a commitment to opening doors for others.
With more than 32 years of dedicated service to the Miami-Dade Police Department, Daniels made history as the first woman and first African-American woman appointed Director of the Department. In that role, she led an organization of more than 5,000 sworn and professional employees, carrying the responsibility of leading one of the nation's largest law enforcement agencies while strengthening organizational accountability, community trust, and professional excellence.
Daniels began her law enforcement career as a police officer in 1992 and rose through the ranks through years of progressively responsible leadership. Throughout her career, she developed a leadership philosophy centered on service, integrity, fairness, accountability, and relationships. Her experience navigating leadership at the highest levels of a traditionally male-dominated profession also strengthened her commitment to ensuring that other women have access to mentorship, professional development, encouragement, and opportunities to lead.
That commitment continues through her service as Secretary of the Florida Association of Women Law Enforcement Professionals (FAWLEP). Daniels is passionate about advancing FAWLEP's mission and strengthening an organization where women across all ranks, agencies, disciplines, and stages of their careers can connect, learn, mentor one another, and grow as leaders.
For Daniels, supporting women in law enforcement is about more than professional advancement. It is about creating a strong network where women understand that they do not have to navigate leadership, transition, adversity, or career growth alone. She believes experienced leaders have a responsibility not simply to occupy positions of influence, but to reach back, develop others, share lessons learned, and help prepare the next generation of women to lead with confidence and purpose.
Beyond her distinguished law enforcement career, Daniels continues her commitment to public service, leadership development, mentorship, and community advocacy. She is also the founder of Renewal Horizons, an initiative centered on purposeful living, leadership, faith, and inspiration. Her work reflects a broader calling to help others recognize their potential, navigate seasons of transition, and move forward with clarity and purpose.
A Miami-Dade County native and proud graduate of Miami Northwestern Senior High School, Daniels earned a bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership from St. Thomas University and a Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University. She is a wife, mother, and grandmother who credits faith, family, and community as foundational influences throughout her life and career.
After more than three decades of breaking barriers, Daniels remains focused not simply on the history she made, but on what that history can make possible for the women coming behind her.
Leadership is not about titles. It is about service, responsibility, and what you do with the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.
